Who she is & what she do
Zhang Ling (张翎) is an award-winning author of ten novels and numerous collections of novellas and short stories. Born in China, she moved to Canada in 1986. In the mid-1990s, she began her literary career while working as a clinical audiologist, developing a bilingual literary practice in Chinese and English. She has received numerous literary honors, including the Chinese Media Literature Award for Author of the Year, the Grand Prize of the Overseas Chinese Literary Award, and Taiwan’s Open Book Award. Her selected publications includeWhere Waters Meet,A Single Swallow, andAftershock. Her novellaAftershockwas adapted into China’s first IMAX feature film. The Russian edition ofA Single Swallowhas been shortlisted for the prestigious Yasnaya Polyana Literary Award (final result to be announced in October 2026).
